Amazon is now taking cash for online deposit at the Mexican store chain Oxxo. The news, first reported by Reuters, comes after the company started accepting cash payments at 7-Eleven and other store chains in Mexico, opening the door for Amazon to reach people in the country who rely heavily on cash. The service, dubbed Amazon Cash, allows shoppers to deposit between 100 pesos and 5,000 pesos ($5 and $260) to their online Amazon accounts online. The company will reimburse a per-transaction commission charged by Oxxo. Femsa-owned Oxxo has close to 18,000 stores in Mexico, where a large portion of the population doesn’t have bank accounts.
